How to get a GED

Getting your General Education Development (GED) certificate is a huge step forward for many people that have not yet received their high school diplomas. The GED can be used instead of a high school diploma to get into college. It can also help the individual to receive more opportunities to pursue higher paying jobs. Obtaining your GED will take some hard work, but the good thing is that there are countless methods that can be used to prepare for the tests.

Know Your State’s Requirements

The specific requirements vary from state to state, and you should first review your state’s GED laws. In most states, you must be at least 16 years old to obtain a GED. You must also verify that you are not currently attending any high school and that you have never received a diploma. Remember that each state will have its own qualifications that must be met. There will likely be some fees involved in the process, but the fees should not be too high.

Be prepared

Write out your plan and your arguments for what you think is right, and practice talking it over with a friend. The more calm and reasoned you are, the more likely your parents will listen.
